McKesson Foundation pledges $500,000 to help increase access to care for Parkland Health patients at RedBird Health Center

April 1, 2022

McKesson Foundation (McKesson) is making a lasting impact in the Dallas community by partnering with Parkland Health (Parkland) to help patients at the RedBird Health Center (RedBird) gain access to convenient, quality health services. The company’s $500,000 investment over the next two years will improve the lives of residents in vulnerable neighborhoods and help give them the opportunity to live healthy, active lives.

Learn more about Parkland's RedBird Health Center

As part of its plan to address healthcare disparities, Parkland recently opened the RedBird Health Center, a multi-specialty clinic in the new RedBird development area in southern Dallas County. The 40,000square-foot health center has 36 exam rooms and offers pediatric, adult and geriatric care, along with pharmacy, lab and behavioral health services to fulfill the needs of the community.

“Parkland’s strategic initiative for RedBird aligns with McKesson’s commitment to improving care in every setting, while also decreasing existing disparities in Dallas County,” said Michael A. Horne, EdD, MPP, president and CEO, Parkland Foundation. “McKesson is proving to be an invaluable corporate partner to the community and their philanthropic investment only strengthens Parkland’s commitment to increasing preventive and primary care in southern Dallas County.”

Projections indicate the new health center, once fully staffed, will provide 18,000 preventive and primary care visits each year and 23,000 women’s specialty health visits each year for people who reside in southern Dallas County, including Duncanville, DeSoto and Cedar Hill. It will also address transportation barriers by including the technology needed to provide virtual methods of care such as telehealth, e-consults and virtual shared medical appointments.

“Parkland is a trusted healthcare provider in the Dallas area and its mission aligns with McKesson’s corporate purpose of advancing health outcomes for all,” said Dr. Kelvin Baggett, executive vice president and chief impact officer, McKesson. “As an impact-driven organization, McKesson is committed to investing in the communities where we live and work. Our partnership with Parkland will be instrumental in providing our neighbors with equitable healthcare access.”
